Rahab and the Spies (Jos. 2)

Before crossing the river Jordan to conquer Canaan Joshua sent out two men to spy on Canaan. He said to them, "Go, view the land of Jericho." The psies went and came into a harlot's house named Rahab and lodged there.

When the king of Jericho learned of this, he sent people  to Rahab. They said to her, "Bring forth the men who came to you for they are spies."

Rahab hid the two men and then answered, "There came men to me, but I do not know where they are now. They went out. Go after them quickly." And the people did.

Then Rahab brought her visitors to the roof of the house and hid them there. At night she said to them, "I know that the Lord has given you the land and we are all afraid of you. Now, therefore, I pray you, swear to me by the Lord that, since I have shown you kindness, you will also show kindness to my father's house."

The men answered, "It shall be. When the Lord has given us the land we will be kind to you." Then she let them down by  a cord through the window for her house was close to the wall.

She said, "Go to the mountains lest the pursuers meet you. After three days when they have returned, you may go on your way."

They answered, "When we come to the land, you shall bind this line of scarlet thread in the window. Bring all your relatives to the house. Nobody shall get out."

Rehab said, "Yes, sirs. Thank you."

So the men returned to Joshua and said, "Truly, the Lord has delivered into your hands all the land, for even all the people of the country are afraid of us."
