The Great Serpent (Dan. 14)

There was a great dragon in Babylonia and the people worshipped him. The king said to Daniel, "Behold, you cannot say now that this is not the living god?"

Daniel answered, "This is not a living god. If you let me, O king, I will kill this dragon without sword or club."

The king said, "I give you leave." So Daniel took pith, fat, and hair and boiled them together; He made lumps and put them into the dragon's mouth. The dragon burst asunder.

Daniel said, "Behold him whom you worshipped."

When the Babylonians heard about it, they gathered against the king and said, "The king has become a Jew.He destroyed Bel, killed the priests, and he killed the dragon. Deliver us Daniel or else we destroy you and your palace." The king delivered Daniel to them. They cast him into the den of lions and he was there six days. In the den there were seven lions which were fed two oxen and two sheep everyday, but that day they didnot feed the lions so tthat they would eat Daniel.

Now, there was in Juda a prophet called Habacuc who was bringing food to the reapers. An angel of the Lord said to Habacuc, "Carry the dinner you are carrying to Daniel in Babylonia in the lion's den."

Habacuc said, "Lord, I never saw Babylonia nor di I know the den." Then an angel of the Lord took him by the top of his head and carried him by the hair of his head, and set him over the den. Habacuc cried and said, "O Daniel, you servant of God, take the dinner that God has sent you."

Daniel said, "You have remembered me, O God;You have not forgotten that I love You." He rose and ate. The angel of the Lord returned Habacuc in his own place.

On the seventh day the king came to bewail Daniel. He came to the den, looked in, saw Daniel sitting in the midst of the lions. The king cried out aloud and said, "Great are You, O God of Daniel," He drew him out of the den. But those who caused his punishment, he cast into the den, and they were devoured in a moment before him.

Then the king said, "Let all the inhabitants of the whole earth fear the God of Daniel, for He is the Savior working signs and wonders in the earth, who delivered Daniel out of the lion's den."
