When the Sun and the Moon Stood Still (Jos. 10)

Joshua was the greatest conqueror of Israel. So the people of Gabaon made peace with him. So Adonesedes, King of Jerusalem with four other kings joined to capture Gabaon. And the men of Gabaon went to Joshua and said, "Do not abandon your servants. Come up quickly and save us from the five kings who joined forced against us."

So Joshua marched up with his picked troops and soldiers. Meanwhile the Lord said to him, "Do not fear them for I have delivered them into your power." When Joshua made a surprise attack upon them, the Lord threw his enemies in disorder before him.

While the enemies fled before Israel the Lord hurled great stones from the sky, killing many. More died from these hailstones than the Israelites slew with sword. But there  were still many trying to escape.

Joshua prayed to the Lord in presence of his soldiers, "Stand still, O sun, at Gabaon; O moon, in the valley of  Aiala!" And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, while Israel took vengeance  on its enemies.

Never before nor sonce was there a day like this when the Lord obeyed the voice of man; for the Lord fought for Israel.
