The new coat-of arms of Cardinal-designate Luis Antonio G. Tagle, D.D., Archbishop of Manila



The Galero is a hat worn by cardinals, it symbolizes that Arcbishop Tagle is now a prince of the church.

The 15 tassles indicates his rank as cardinal in the church hierachy.

The Tower of Castille is in honor of Spain which brought Christianity to the Philippines.

The crescent moon is a symbol of Immaculate Concepcion.

The Merlion is the symbol of Manila, but instead of holding a Kris (sword), it holds a cross.

On the upper right is Christ as the Good Sheperd and the Gospel symbolize Cardinal Tagle's role as prophet and sheperd of his flock.

On the middle right are symbols of Our Lady of Pillar, Patroness of Cavite, hometown of the cardinal and where he was bishop of Imus before his designation as Archbishop of Manila.

On the lower right are the symbols of St. Joseph in honor of San Jose Seminary where Cardinal Tagle spent his formation as priest.

The motto at the bottom is latin for "It is the Lord", a favorite passage from the bible that is often the subject of his homilies and talks.
