AQUARIUS (January 21 to February 19)

Traditionally ruled by Saturn, Aquarius is also ruled by Uranus, the planet of awakening and rebellion. Uranian independence and unconventionality seem at variance with Saturnian caution and sedateness, just like fire and water, mini-skirts and nuns, beer and ice cream, rosaries and tanks, Namfrel and Comelec, Beltran and Cristobal, Popeye and Brutus, etc. But on closer examination, it is not really contradiction that is at work here, for who could be more set in his ideas and determined in his purpose than the typical revolutionary?

Although an Air sign, Aquarius is symbolized by the Water Bearer or The Man with the Urn of Water, who pours water freely for all humanity. Water, which represents the intuitive or inspirational ability, is poured out indiscriminately to all regardless of anyone's political bent, sex or creed. The Aquarian loves humanity as a whole, but he is no "respecter of persons". Which probably means that he is polygamous.

Although an Air sign, Aquarius is symbolized by the Water Bearer or The Man with the Urn of Water, who pours water freely for all humanity. Water, which represents the intuitive or inspirational ability, is poured out Aquarius rules over the circulatory system, which explains why he is an irrepressible honk or carrier and disseminator of information and ideas. For this reason, he can easily give Inday Ba-diday a run for her money. Or, he can be a humble rumormonger like Joe Quirino, if not a sultan of slight like Beltran. Being a natural rebel with a temperament that can be ruined by too conventional a life, he can also be none of the above. However, since he is a person whose fixed idea is that the customary is wrong, he will do well in the lucrative business of importing and exporting revolutions. But for obvious Saturnian reasons, he must remember to register with the SEC and the BOI so that he can avail of the incentives and tax exemptions for preferred pioneering industries.

The Aquarian is likely to be unusually idealistic this year. He can keep things in perspective by developing a wordly sense of humor and by taking crash courses in cynicism. In addition, he will be surrounded by conditions of breakdown and decay, which may mean that he will have to call a plumber to fix that leaking faucet, or write his favorite NPA commander about the less than adequate collection of garbage in his area.
