How does a Cricket Produces his chirping sound

The male cricket produces his characteristic chirping noises by rubbing his forewings together.  The higher the air temperature, the greater the number of chirps he generates per minute.

Thus, you can tell the temperature by counting a cricket's chirp.  Provided that the thermometer reads between forty-five and eighty degrees, count the number of chirps you hear in fifteen seconds.  Then add thirty-seven to this number. The result will tell you the exact air temperature at the time.
