Teresa Magbanua a.k.a.Teresa Magbanwa

Eminent Visayan Katipunera October 13, 1868 - August 1947      Teresa Magbanua was born on October 13, 1868 in Pototan, Iloilo. Her parents were Juan Magbanua and Alejandra Ferraris. Her family was considerably rich.      She was sent to Manila to study and she enrolled at Santa Rosa College. She was then sixteen years old. She transferred to Sta. Catalina College in 1886, but she finished a course in teaching at the College of Doña Cecilia in 1894. She returned to Pototan to teach.      Four years later she transferred to Sara where she met and married Alejandro Balderas, a wealthy landowner. She quit teaching and live in the farm owned by Alejandro. She helped in managing the farm. Jose Abad Santos

Nationalist Martyr February 19, 1886 - May 2, 1942      Jose Abad Santos was born on February 19, 1886 in San Fernando, Pampanga to Vicente Abad Santos and Toribia Basco.      As a young boy, he went to a school owned by Roman Velez in the nearby town Bacolor. He also studied at a school established by Americans in San Fernando.      In 1904, he was sent to the United States for his high school at the College of Santa Clara in San Jose, California. He took up college in the University of Illinois. He transferred to the Northwestern University were he finished Law on June 4, 1908. He got his Master of Law from the George Washington University on June 19, 1909.      When he returned to the Philippines, he work as a clerk in the Archives Division of the Executive Bureau. Claro M. Recto

Nationalist Senator February 8, 1890 - October 2, 1960            Claro M. Recto was born on February 8, 1890 in Tiaong, Quezon. His parents were Claro Recto Sr. and Micaela Mayo. At age 19, he finished Bachelor of Arts, Summa cum Laude, in Ateneo de Manila. At the age of 24, he finished Law at the University of Santo Tomas. He passed the bar in 1914.      Recto was still studying in the University of Santo Tomas, when he began writing for the newspapers. In 1911 his first book was published, a collection of poems, the Bajo las Cocoteros. He was secretary of the Philippine Commission in 1913. He became adviser to the Senate in 1916. He was elected as a representative of Batanggas in 1919 and became the minority floor leader up to 1925. He also became  a member of the pro-independence group that visited the United States in 1924. Gregorio H. del Pilar (The Hero of Tirad Pass)

Hero of Tirad Pass November 14, 1875 - December 2, 1899      Gregorio H. Del Pilar was born in San Jose, Bulacan on November 14, 1875 to Fernando H. Del Pilar and Felipa Sempio.            He died at Ateneo Municipal de Manila and finished Bachelor of Arts in 1896. He joined the Katipunan at the age of 17. He fought against the Spaniards in the Battle of Kakarong de Sili on January 1, 1897. Del Pilar led the Filipinos' vectory against the Spaniards in Paombong, Bulacan on September 3, 1897.      He accompanied Emilio Aguinaldo to Hong Kong after signing in the Pact of Biak-na-Bato in December of 1897. Brave Guerilla (September 28, 1910 - July 15, 1942)      Wenceslao Q. Vinzons was born on September 28, 1910 in Indan, Camarines Norte to Gavino V. Vinzons and Engracia Quinito. He studied high school at the Camarines Norte High School, which He graduated valedictorian. He finished law at the University of the Philippines.      Vinzons was a multi-awarded orator. He became editor of the Philippine Collegian, the school organ of the University and was elected president of the Student Council. He placed third in the board exams of 1933. At the age of 23, he was elected delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1935. He was considered most eminent youth in politics. He founded the Young Philippines Party. Emilio Jacinto (The Brains of the Katipunan)

The Brains of the Katipunan December 15, 1875 - April 16, 1899      Emilio Jacinto was born on December 15, 1875 in Tondo Manila. His parents were Josefa Dizon and Mariano Jacinto. He took his primary and secondary education under the tutelage of Maestro Pascual Ferrer. He studied at San Juan de Letran. He later transferred to the University Of Santo Tomas. He took up Law and was not able to finish as the revolution started.      At the very young age of 19, Jacinto joined the Katipunan and became an adviser and secretary of Andres Bonifacio. He wrote the Primer of the Katipunan, which became a guide for the Katipuneros. He also launched the Katipunan newspaper, Kalayaan.      Bonifacio also wrote a set of rules and regulations for Katipunan members to follow, but he chose Jacinto's kartilya for the organization to adopt. Sultan Kudarat a.k.a. Muhammad Dipatuan Qudarat

Wise and Courageous Leader (Cotabato, c. 1663) 1580-1671 A direct descendant of Sharif Kabungsan who propagated Islam in Mindanao. He was able to defend successfully his domain from Spanish incursion. He was a wise ruler and a good administrator. He encouraged his people to develop agriculture and to trade with non-Muslim Filipinos,      Muhammad Dipatuan Qudarat (or Kudarat) is believed to have been born in 1580. He was the son of Sultan Buisan died in 1602, Kudarat became Sultan.      Wise and courageous, Kudarat was considered by the Spaniards as a true leader of the Muslims of Mindanao. He was the leader of three Muslim territories: Maguindano, Simuay and Lamitan. There was a lively trade during his reign with other kingdoms. Walking in a department store I glazed on this beautiful and creative tree designed and created from the packets of Tang juices. Tang   is a fruit-flavored drink. Originally formulated by   General Foods Corporation   food scientist   William A. Mitchell   in 1957, it was first marketed in powdered form in 1959.   The Tang brand is owned by   MondelÄ“z International . Sales of Tang were poor until  NASA  used it on  John Glenn 's  Mercury  flight, and subsequent  Gemini  missions. Jose W. Diokno a.k.a. Ka Pepe

Nationalist Lawmaker February 26, 1922 - February 27, 1987 Jose W. Diokno , better known as Ka Pepe was born on February 26, 1922. His parents were Ramon Diokno  and Eleanor Wright , an American. Diokno finished high school as class valedictorian at De La Salle  in 1937 , where  he also finished  hi Commerce course in 1940, summa cum laude. He garnered the highest grade  in CPA board examination that same year , in 1944, without a Bachelor of Laws Degree, he was allowed to take the bar examination s and got the highest grade of 93.5. Because of his reputation as a good lawyer, he was appointed in 1961 as Secretary of Justice by Pres. Diosdado Macapagal. Andres Bonifacio (Katipunan Supremo)

Katipunan Supremo November 30,1863-May 10,1897 Andres Bonifacio was born on November 30, 1863 in Tondo, Manila. His parents were Santiago Bonifacio and Catalina de Castro. Bonifacio worked as a messenger-clerk at Flemming and Company and later at Fressel and Company, both companies owned by foreigners.  He likes to read, he read the novels written by Jose Rizal. He joined the La Liga Filipina, an organization formed by Rizal in 1892. Soon Bonifacio realized that reforms in the Philippines could only be attained by revolution. Hence, he helped establish on July 7, 1892 the Katipunan: Kataas-taasang Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan, a secret organization aimed to free Philippines from Spanish rule by means of revolution.
