When was the first solo circumnavigation of the world?

     The first single-handed voyage round the world was achieved by Joshua Slocum in his sloop Spray between 1895 and 1898.

     He wrote about his experience in his book, Sailing Alone Around the World, published in 1900; the book became an international best-seller.

     Joshua Slocum was born in Canada in  February 20, 1844; sometime in November 1909 he disappeared while aboard his boat, the Spray and --- died at sea sometime in 1910. he was a Nova Scotian born, naturalised American seaman and adventurer, and a noted writer.
