FIRSTS IN FILIPINO MOVIES

La Sombra de la Armada was the first Filipino-produced film. Miss Ru-perta Noguera played the principal role in the film which was shown in 1913.

Malayan Movies, founded and headed by Jose Nepomuceno, was the first Filipino movie company organized to make films.

Dalagang Bukid, a Malayan Films production (1919), was the first full length Filipino movie produced. Stars of the film were Atang de la Rama and Marcelino Ilagan.

El Hijo Desobediente, shown in 1922, was the first Visayan silent mo­vie.

Bataliyon XIII, directed by Manuel Silos, was the first Filipino movie pro­duced in color.

Bertoldo Balodoy was the first talking movie made in Visayan.

Sound movies were first introduced in Manila in August, 1929. 
The film shown was called Syncopation. An RKO Radio Picture, it was shown at the Radio Theater in Sta. Cruz, Manila where most of the movie theaters were located.

Zamboanga, the first Filipino movie released for world distribution, was produced and starred in by Fernando Poe Sr. with Rosa del Rosario co-star­ring. The underwater kissing sequences proved a sensation wherever the movie was shown. The movie won an "hono­rable citation" from the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science.
